POSITION TITLE: Custodian – Night Shift (Justice Center)

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management

REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

WORK SCHEDULE: Night Shift (Full-Time, Monday – Friday)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Night Shift Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, secure, and professional environment inside the Warren County Justice Center. Working independently during non-operational evening and overnight hours (Monday through Friday), this position ensures all interior public lobbies, courtrooms, judicial chambers, clerk offices, and restrooms are thoroughly sanitized, ordered, and fully prepared for daily judicial operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

• Restroom Sanitation & Restocking: Clean, disinfect, and restock all public, staff, and private chamber restrooms, ensuring all commodes, urinals, sinks, counters, mirrors, and fixtures are fully sanitized daily.

• Judicial & Office Space Upkeep: Clean and wipe down work surfaces across courtrooms and administrative spaces, including litigation tables, clerk counters, podiums, conference tables, and public bench seating.

• Floor Care & Maintenance: Perform routine and deep interior floor care throughout the facility, including daily vacuuming of carpeted halls, chambers, and courtrooms, spot-cleaning stains, dust-mopping wood floors, damp-mopping hard surfaces, and operating commercial floor equipment (buffers, auto-scrubbers, and carpet extractors) for periodic deep cleaning.

• Interior Waste & Trash Removal: Empty all interior trash containers and recycling bins throughout offices, chambers, courtrooms, breakrooms, and public corridors. Replace liners, pick up interior litter, and transport waste to the building’s internal designated trash holding/staging areas. (Note: Exterior trash receptacles and dumpster runs are handled during daytime shifts). Strictly follow non-interference policies regarding confidential document disposal and paper recycling.

• Surface & Interior Cleaning: Perform high/low dusting (signage, wainscoting, air vents, light fixtures), clean interior glass doors and partition windows, remove cobwebs, and sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, push plates, and handrails.

• Safety & Hazard Management: Prioritize personal safety and the safety of coworkers, judicial staff, and facility occupants at all times. Safely mix, use, and store cleaning chemicals in strict accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS); utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); maintain clean, hazard-free work areas and custodial closets; and promptly report plumbing leaks, maintenance issues, or physical security risks to the Facilities Director.

• Facility Security & Protocol Compliance: Strictly follow interior security protocols for non-operational hours, ensuring restricted areas (chambers, holding spaces, record rooms) remain secure and all interior/exterior access points are locked at shift end. Maintain full confidentiality by never disturbing files or legal materials left on desks.

Note on Work Scope: The duties outlined above reflect the core expectations for this position but do not limit the complete range of responsibilities. Daily priorities, operational demands, and specific tasks may adapt or change at any time based on the needs of Warren County, the Justice Center, or at the direction of the Facilities Director.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Transportation & Attendance: Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to guarantee consistent, punctual attendance for scheduled night shifts.

• Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred, with 1–2 years of commercial or government facility cleaning experience.

• Skills & Safety Mindset: Strong commitment to workplace safety and proper chemical handling procedures; knowledge of commercial floor care equipment; ability to work independently with minimal night-shift supervision; high reliability, integrity, and attention to detail.

• Physical Demands: Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.

• Clearance: Must pass comprehensive background checks required for unescorted access to secure judicial facilities.
