Warren County Fire Department – Job Announcement

Position: Full-Time Non-Certified Fire Fighter

Base Salary: 50,000 annually
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available
Incentives: Eligible to receive Kentucky Fire Commission Incentive Pay ($4,562 annually) upon successful completion of all training requirements. This incentive is not included in the $50,000 base salary.
Retirement: This is a Kentucky KPPA Hazardous Duty Retirement Position.

Position Summary

The Warren County Fire Department is seeking qualified, motivated, and service-oriented candidates for the position of Full-Time Non-Certified Firefighter/Rescuer. This position requires individuals to perform skilled work in fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and related emergency operations to protect life, property, and the environment. Firefighter/Rescuers are expected to respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents, participate in training and public education programs, and perform duties in accordance with departmental policies, state law, and applicable federal regulations. Duty assignments are always subject to change at the discretion of department leadership; however, station stability is the intended goal. You will be required to attend a 13-week fire academy that is out of town.

Minimum Qualifications (Required at Time of Appointment)

Applicants must possess the following certifications and credentials:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Kentucky Fire Commission Certified Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) card
  • Valid driver’s license (must be maintained throughout entirety of employment)

 

EMT Requirement:

  • Applicants are not required to hold a Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification at the time of hire.
  • All individuals hired must obtain Kentucky EMT certification within the first 24 months of employment and maintain EMT certification for the duration of employment.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain Kentucky EMT certification within the specified timeframe will be cause for termination.
  • The County may provide guidance, resources, or course information to assist employees in obtaining EMT certification, but will not cover the cost or pay for the training.

 

Automatic Disqualifiers

Applicants will be automatically disqualified from consideration for the Firefighter/Rescuer position for any of the following:

  • Felony conviction of any kind
  • Failure to possess a valid and current CPAT card at the time of hire unless the applicant meets the circumstances identified by the Kentucky Fire Commission for not requiring possession
  • Domestic violence conviction of any kind (felony or misdemeanor)

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to alarms, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, medical calls, and other emergencies.
  • Provides Basic Life Support (BLS) care as a certified EMT (once obtained).
  • Performs fire suppression, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and related firefighting tasks.
  • Participates in technical rescue operations such as rope, water, vehicle extrication, and confined space incidents.
  • Operates and drives fire department vehicles, including engines, tankers, brush/wildland units, aerials, and support trucks, safely and effectively.
  • Participates in required drills, training, and continuing education.
  • Assists in fire prevention, public safety education, and community outreach programs.
  • Performs daily station duties including cleaning, equipment checks, and general upkeep.
  • Works effectively as part of a team under stressful and hazardous conditions.
  • Maintains compliance with Kentucky Fire Commission requirements and departmental policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements

All individuals who are offered a conditional job offer must successfully complete the following assessments and screenings to determine suitability for employment:

  • Drug screen urinalysis
  • NFPA 1582 compliant medical evaluation
  • Thorough background investigation
  • Any other assessments as required by department leadership

Failure to successfully complete these pre-employment requirements may result in rescission of the conditional offer.

 

Annual Evaluations

All full-time operational employees are required to successfully complete annual evaluations to ensure operational readiness. These evaluations will include, but are not limited to:

  • Firefighting skills evaluations
  • SCBA competency evaluations
  • Medical skills evaluations
  • Driving and apparatus operation evaluations
  • Any additional evaluations as assigned by department leadership

Failure to successfully complete assigned evaluations may result in corrective action, up to and including termination.

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Regular Schedule: This is a 40-hour per week position, based on four (4) 10-hour shifts per week with a rotating day off.
  • Future Adjustments: Based on the evolving needs of the Warren County Fire Department system, this position may transition into a 24-hour shift assignment in the future.
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, frequently under hazardous or adverse conditions.
  • Must maintain physical fitness standards required for firefighting and emergency response duties.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary: $50,000.00
  • Incentive Pay: Eligible for Kentucky Fire Commission Incentive Pay of $4,300 annually upon successful completion of all training and eligibility requirements. This incentive is in addition to the base salary and is not included in the $50,000.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive package including health insurance, retirement participation, paid leave, and additional benefits as provided by Warren County Fiscal Court and applicable policies.
  • Uniforms & Equipment: The County will issue all uniforms and necessary equipment, including structural firefighting protective gear and department uniforms.
