History of Basil W. Griffin, Jr. Park
Basil W. Griffin, Jr. Park is the crown jewel of the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department. The park is surrounded on three sides by manmade boundaries and on the fourth side by a line of trees next to a small farm, making it an excellent location for a park. Named in honor of the late County Judge Executive, Basil W. Griffin, Jr., the park has been developed with the family in mind, providing a constructive leisure setting and a variety of programs.
Warren County Fiscal Court purchased 111.23 acres, including a 33-acre lake, from Mrs. Paul Huddleston in 1977, and a four-phase plan of development was adopted and implemented beginning in August 1980 with funding provided by several sources. The administrative offices for the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department are also housed on the grounds in a beautiful brick building built in 2011.
Originally named for its location in 1977, Three Springs Park was later dedicated in honor of Judge Basil W. Griffin, Jr. on August 31, 1987.
With all its amenities including 10 baseball/softball fields, an inline hockey rink, walking trails, disc golf course, amphitheater, chapel, picnic shelters, Paradise Playground, and Aviation Heritage Park, Basil Griffin sees the most daily traffic of all the County parks and truly provides a variety of opportunities for outdoor activities for citizens of Warren County and the surrounding communities.
